I have been in love with Wordpress ever since I started using it to run webclique. The entire application is designed to be so seamless and easy to use, that even a person with very limited knowledge of PHP and SQL can be up and running with a very small time investment (I believe their website claims 5 minutes). I think the hardest part for me throughout the whole process of switching to WP was deciding how I wanted to modify the templates and css to create the new look for the site. A user who was willing to simply use a pre-constructed template, however, could literally be up and writing on Wordpress well within the claimed 5 minutes (I think it actually took me 7 minutes altogether to do the install on my server). As with most love affairs, though, there are those little nits that develop in a relationship over time that can drive you absolutely nuts if you let them.

So, like most couples with work to do, Wordpress and I are looking into some professional help. We are on the hunt to heal our commenting system. Ever since I installed WP I’ve been inundated with spammy comments. In fact, I’ve started receiving so many comments about cheap Xanax and and nipple rings that I’ve decided to close all commenting down until I can find a plugin that will help me to better control the junk that rolls in everyday. I never had any real problems with commenting on Blogger, but WP is a beast of another color and requires a bit more finesse and sweet talking to get it to play nice. That said, we’re hoping to get some help and make some changes that will help us in the long run. Ain’t love grand?
