The Edge of Reason

I took a break from the hectic this weekend to do a little one-day road trip. We headed up to the upper echelons of Washington State yesterday to meet with a Welsh Corgi breeder about getting a companion for our two year old Corgi, Baylee. The trip up yielded just about every type of weather possible, however I was thankful that the majority of the journey was bathed in warm, welcoming sunshine.

We were only able to pass through Seattle this time around, but it was just a gorgeous day there with infinite visibility around the bay, which made for a near sensory overload when taking in all the gorgeous architecture and other suburban goodness. I was able to get some decent photos as we drove through. I think I’m becoming fairly adept at blind composition by hanging the camera out the window and shooting macro bursts. Some of the photos will be usable as stock for photo collages and the like, but there were actually a few that would make decent prints with a bit of cleanup in Photoshop.

All-in-all it was a nine hour round trip, making for quite a bit of grumpiness on our parts, but we arrived home with our new little six week old friend, sleepy and nuzzly. Now I realize that nine hours may seem a bit excessive for one little dog, but what I’ve come to understand about the strange world of dog ownership (and it is strange) is that there are breeders (eh.) and then there are breeders (wow!). When selecting a dog, breeders (wow!) are worth the extra time and drive simply because of the extra effort they put into their animals. Granted, breeders (wow!) can also be a bit strange and oddly attached to their dogs, but over all when you’re putting out money on a pet don’t you want to make sure that the person is taking care of the animals the way they need to be taken care of?
