Home Again Home Again Jiggedy Jig

I got home yesterday after a miserably long drive from Seattle to Portland. Traffic coming out of the city was thick, congested and miserable, and what should have been a quick 20 minutes out of the Puget Sound area, easily ended up adding another hour on to my total trip.

I think that travelling home from a conference has to be the worst part of the whole experience. I generally find that by the last quarter of any event I go to I’m thinking about the return trip and dreading that there has to be this circuitous process of getting back to home base. When that trip takes longer than expected (layover, traffic, etc.), I start counting minutes and minutes feel like an eternity of waiting.

Day 2 of An Event Apart Seattle was great. Khoi Vihn and Shaun Inman were definitely high points of the event. Khoi’s part on implementing grids on a website was a bit technical for early in the morning, but very informative. Shaun spoke about Mint and he develops user interfaces for web applications, a process I’m not very familiar with, but found to be extremely interesting anyway.

Overall, AEA was a huge success. From the people I talked to during my two days at the event, everyone was greatly impressed with the quality of the presentations and the information presented. I know for myself, I left with multiple pages of notes, new lines of thoughts, a few new project ideas on my list and a pile of things to do additional personal research on in the coming weeks.
