It’s 2008, Welcome to the Thunderdome

It’s been hard for me to accept the fact that another year has come and gone. Just when I was starting to feel like I’d hit my stride for the 2007 calendar year, people were starting to stuff their thankful turkeys and sweet yams were flying off the shelves faster than Martha could stuff them into her handbag.

Has time sped up? Where did 2007 go?

Perhaps it’s the near frantic speed in which we live our lives, or the inordinate amount of time we spend needlessly immersed and chained to the countless technical gadgets we carry on our bat-belts these days. I’m unsure, and I’m definitely not in any type of position to even comment on the state of how many gadgets the average person needs these days, or to postulate on the amount of time sucked from our lives while maintaining our digital lifestyles. I have too many gadgets and a larger, more hectic digilife than I really need my own damn self, so I won’t go there. My point is just that this year has gone by way too fast. Too much sand has slipped through my fingers this past year leaving me feeling a bit hollow about 2007.

My hope is that 2008 will stay a little longer and not be in such a rush to pass the baton to baby new year ‘09. Yet, when I look at my production calendar dotting up in the first few weeks of January, my hopes are not very high for a nice, meandering, mellow year.

What does it take to slow things down in our “blink and you’ll miss it” lives? I’m not sure, but I plan on spending some time thinking about it this year. Hopefully, I can find a way to gently apply the brakes and have some time to enjoy what promises to be a busy, productive year.
